Ubatuba Pro Grand Slam to run from 27th April – 5th May

The Ubatuba Pro Grand Slam will run from the 27th April – 5th May in the beautiful region of Ubatuba, just north of Sao Paolo, Brazil.

The first weekend will see the World Series hit one of the Town’s many beautiful beaches, with its Long distance and sprint races, coupled with open and youth racing divisions and relays.

After a dramatic World Series Opener held in the form of the Aragas Magallanes Paddle Challenge, presented by Stand Up Latino and powered by Big Foot Adventure, tension will be mounting as the best of Brazil will congregate to take on the world’s best international riders for the next chapter towards the World Championship Title in 2013.

Kai Lenny (Naish) and Connor Baxter (Starboard) will rekindle their battle in Ubatuba, but also the Danish Viking Casper Steinfath (Naish) and the on form Zane Schweitzer (Starboard) from Maui amongst many others.

Zane Schweitzer takes gold in dramatic style in Abu Dhabi

While Zane Scwheitzer (Starboard) was always expected to be one of the standouts at the wave pool, his rise to the top here at the Abu Dhabi All Stars presented by Abu Dhabi Sailing and yacht, UAE SUP and Wadi Adventure Park was meteoric, as he stunned the spectators and judges alike to take the much deserved victory here in the desert.

Zane was faced with tough adversaries throughout the competition, as you would expect of an All Stars event, climaxing in the finals as he faced the young Brazilian on devasting form here in Abu Dhabi, Ian Vaz (Art in Surf). As they both pushed the bar of performance stand up paddlesurfing to a whole new level, Zane stormed to victory with 3 scores on the 3 respective wave settings (right. left, closeout) in the excellent range.

There is no doubt that Zane is a man on a mission this year on the Stand Up World Tour, and by posting score after score in the 9 point range and even a 10 here at the Abu Dhabi All Stars, he has shown to himself and to the world, he does have what it takes.

Epic action at Day 1 of the Abu Dhabi All Stars event

Set against the dramatic desert mountain and providing the most high performance waves of any wave pool in the world, Wadi Adventure provided the ideal venue for the surfing component of the Abu Dhabi All Stars, presented by Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club, UAE SUP and Wadi Advenure, The world’s best stepped up to the challenge and put on one of the most impressive displays of high performance stand up paddle surfing imaginable as they started to become accustomed to the unique nature of the wave at Wadi Adventure.

Benefiting from the mechanical consistency and level playing field that the wave pool gives the competition, an all new format was introduced for the event, where for the first 3 rounds, it is not man on man, but everyone against everyone, as they battled it out for the best scores to advance through to the quarterfinals. Out of the 3 rights in round one, 3 lefts in round 2 and 3 closeouts in round 3, it was the best wave from each that counted towards their overall result and chance of qualifying directly into the quarterfinals.

The Top 6 go directly through to the Quarterfinals, while this morning, the remaining athletes will go through to a sudden death round to battle it out for the last 2 places in the quarterfinals.

Day 1 of the Abu Dhabi All Stars Invitational: live today

The Abu Dhabi All Stars Invitational presented by Abu Dhabi Sailing Club, UAE SUP and Wadi Adventure is live today, with the start of the surfing component at Wadi Adventure.

This ground breaking format in the world renowned wave pool here in Al Ain will provide the most innovative and rider driven format yet for professional surfing, as the world’s best Stand Up Paddlesurfers congregate for one of the most exciting showdowns in the sport’s history.

The Abu Dhabi All Stars Invitational will go live this week

Abu Dhabi will play host this week to a selection of the world’s very best stand up paddlesurfers for the inaugural Abu Dhabi All Stars Invitational, presented by the Abu Dhabi Sailing and Yacht Club, UAE SUP and Wadi Adventure Park.

The All Stars event will take the world of competitive surfing into a new realm, with its innovative format taking place in the wave pool at Wadi Adventure Park. The athletes will then come into the centre of the City to take part in the heat format elimination sprints for a combo of events that will highlight the appeal, diversity and reach of the incredible sport of stand up paddling.

The whole event will be broadcast live from Abu Dhabi starting with the Surf component at Wadi Adventure Park this coming Thursday 4th & 5th and then moving into the City on Saturday 6th for the fast paced sprints.

Kai Lenny regains his Sunset Beach Pro Title with a win

After having to settle for 3rd place overall in 2012, and narrowly losing to Bonga Perkins in the Finals of the 2012 Sunset Beach Pro, the young Kai Lenny (Naish) from Maui, Hawaii was a man on a mission this year at Sunset Beach, putting together a string of standout performances through the heats to make it all the way to the Final.

In the Final, he was not going to make the same mistake twice, as he notched up an impressive heat total with critical and high risk turns completed with skill and flair, impressing the judges and crowds alike and earning him the first notch on his belt towards the 2013 World Title. Kai Lenny is your 2013 Sunset Beach Pro Champion.

The Waterman League takes the world’s best to Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi has all of the ingredients to become a World Class destination for the sport: from flat water cruising in the warm waters and continual sunshine, to the waves, yes, you did hear right, waves found at one of the world’s premier wave pools (Wadi Adventure), Abu Dhabi has something for everyone from entry level paddler, to high performance surfer. The event will be part of the Abu Dhabi Beach Games 2013 which is organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club. For this unique event, the Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club is teaming up with the UAE SUP Association, Wadi Adventure and the Waterman League to produce the Abu Dhabi Surf & Paddle All Stars Invitational from the 4th – 7th April 2013.

Sunset Beach sees another day of spectacular action today

For a second day in a row, Sunset delivered big powerful surf for the assembled contenders to battle it out for the event crown. Sunset once again called the shots, as the competitors put it all on the line in the maxing conditions, providing more spectacular rides, heavy wipeouts and drama, as we completed Round 1, the repecharge and got half way through Round 3 of the Main event.

Sunset Beach provides magic for Day 1 of the Main Event

It was a magical day at Sunset Beach today, with a picture perfect Hawaiian day accompanied by giant but managable surf in the 12ft+ range (20ft plus faces). The perfect setting saw some spectacular action that took us all the way through the trials and through 6 heats of the 1st round in the Main Event. With mindblowing conditions and action to match, Sunset Beach once again legitimized itself as the ultimate opener for the Stand Up World Tour.
